Okay, strange question.
First the background:
I recently acquired a ProFile Hard Drive with the intention of using it on my
Apple /// - the price was pretty much unbeatable. As I was looking it over
after I got home, I found a plastic tab marked "Pull to remove" stuck to its
side. I figured it might be to deactivate power for servicing or something.
Being a bit curious and not wanting to just "pull to remove" an unknown item,
I carefully opened the case to see where the other end might be. It was
attached to the head mechanism with a fairly strong adhesive, apparently to
lock the head in place - for transport, most likely. Except it looks like
it's a one-time pull.
So here's the question:
Any chance this drive is brand-spanking-new? It sure looks like it could be.
Perhaps the mechanism was replaced in the past, and a new tab put in place?
It would have been impossible to put this strip in place without the case
being open, and I can't imagine an average user cracking the case and doing
so.
Other, slightly less important questions:
How do I tell how large the media is? The model # is A9M0005, so it's LIKELY
a 5Meg, but if the mechanism was replaced, could a 10Meg or even larger have
been fitted?
And where do I get an interafce for it? I thought I had one, but I was
mistaken. Apple /// Profile interface for sale, anyone? I would need the
cable as well.
Any input is welcome. Flames re: 'Apple /// is not Apple //' > /dev/null :)
Cheers,
James Noyes
