In late 1992, I wrote an article for my Shareware Solutions column in
inCider/A+ Magazine where the subject matter was freeware/shareware/public
domain software that started out life as commercial products. Quoting from
that article...
"In later years, Barney Stone of Stoneware Technologies developed DB Master
Professional, a relational database for Apple II's, and consequently
re-released DB Master v5.0, the most powerful flat-file database program
ever available for the Apple II, as a $45 shareware offering."
Although I haven't been in touch with Barney in years, it's my understanding
that he can be found at the same address/phone number as when Stoneware was
active. And, no, I don't have that address/number handy...but it's listed in
the DB Master v5.0 docs.
Tracking down and contacting Barney Stone might be a job for the Treasure
Chest Project. Who knows...maybe Barney would be willing to re-release DB
Master Pro (that's the version that's a relational database) as freeware,
shareware or public domain?
