The Apple IIGS is quite a bit better than the //e or //c.
What can you do with it?
Surf the web
Desktop publish
Paint in 3200 colors
Word Process
Modem with telnet (SIS) and zmodem at speeds of up to 56K
Cool games
Great sound (15 to 32 voices, 56kHz sampling)
Playing .MID, .MOD, synth, .WAV, and .AU files
of several megabytes in length
Composing music
MIDI
Video capture at 12-bits (raw data mode) and remap
with multiple palettes
Spreadsheets and Database
Use of TrueType fonts or downloadable Postscript
And the list goes on. I use both a GS and a '486.
Both are greatly superior to the old IIe in capabilities.
Believe it or not, I timed the two computers in various
tasks and found that my 13.75MHz GS outperforms my 25MHz
'486 in many instances. This is why I use the GS for
word processing and DTP (and yes, using a mouse-based
GUI integrated program: AppleWorks GS, not IIe AppleWorks).
The '486 is mainly used for graphics processing and
Netscape.
