A 2400 external modem will work just fine and is fast enough for text.  The 
serial port spec goes up to 19200 but the early models had a flaw.  ProTerm is 
a very good program.  I don't know if anyone has a good browser for the duece.

I used my //c with Proterm until last year for newsgroups via Delphi and 
Sprint.  Kept up with newsgroups just fine.
