According to Steven Levy in the book _Hackers_, Sierra Online started
including a "hint" about how to get by the snake with later versions of
the game. It seems that *many* people got frustrated with playing the
game because it was so *hard* to get around the snake. So instead of
spending
your life on this puzzle, you *might* have just got a look at a later
copy
of the game.
