Here a solid vote for ROM 1. I hate the day the Apple dealer diagnosed a
motherboard failure (which later turned out to be a TrashWarp problem) and 
downgraded my IIgs to ROM 3. ROM 3 does indeed offer quite some advantages (IMO
notably cleaner audio and slot arbitration), but a few very fine pieces of
software are incompatible.

People with ROM 3 machines be careful. If you need instructions on how to fry
your unsocketed Ensoniq, e-mail me. :-))))
