PhoneNet on IIGS

I have to admit, I have the M machine.  Sad to say, but the GS is new to
me and all that, but I'm learning.  Anyway, I wanted to hook my IIGS to
the AppleTalk network with PhoneNet connectors, to transfer files, and
to share the Imagewriter II.  Well, I thought it was just connecting the
PhoneNet box into the printer port, and installing network software, but
it did not work.  Then it came back to me about the slot assignments,
and as I looked through, I found AppleTalk in slot 7, but did not work. 
What am I missing.  

	By the way, I have a ROM 01 GS, with 3 megs of ram, and system 6.0.1,
and the PowerM machine with system 7.5.
