Varied IIgs Q's
Whip out your reading glasses and grab a liter of Mountain Dew. This
may take a while ;)
The 4-pin sound connector near the front inside the IIgs: can I just
grab some of these pins, and connect 'em to a stereo audio out?
Microphone/Audio in?
When I format a 3.5" disk for ProDOS in System 6.0.1, one of the
options is 2:1 or 4:1. What's this do? Interleave? If so, why would
anyone mess with it?
Would it be harmful to the IIgs's sound circuitry if I plug an
unamplified speaker (according to its back, it's 8 ohm, 3W max) into
the earphone jack of the IIgs?
Is there an NDA that lets me view the files that Teach does? Where is
it?
My IIgs came with an AE GS-RAM+. My ads in old _A+_ magazines say it
was supposed to come with software. Is there a way for me to get it
now?
What is ProDOS 16? Is it running beneath GS/OS or something? Is it
backwards compatible with ProDOS 8 programs?
My Phasor sound card seems to work fine in the IIgs, but it now has
lotsa interference (the kind I described before--the interference
changes sound as the IIgs thinks about different kinds of tasks).
Would moving it to some other slot reduce the noise? It'll work in
basically any slot, and I don't mind if I have to go to the control
panel and disable the mouse, serial ports, 3.5" drives, or move my
hard drive controller to another slot. Since the IIgs gets quite
toasty after a while* (the Phasor itself is no fridge, either), I'm
rather wary of covering my Phasor with aluminum foil, etc. to ditch
the static.
I've noticed that the CMS SCSI card is much less expensive than
Apple's and Sequential's. Why? Will it work with all the same
flopticals, CD-ROMs, etc?
What the heck is up with the 640 mode? Is it normal, real, 640 x 200?
How many colors are there really? I thought there were only 4 per
line, but I've seen 15 colors per line in the 640 mode. Is this some
really funky deal like standard & double high-res? I zoom in on a
blue area in the 640 mode, and I see a magenta and white dither.
How can I associate various filetypes to various programs, so I can
double-click th edocs in Finder, and have the right program open?
This last question is mostly just for fun, but it could become very
important in September, should my college half of my dorm room prove
to be smaller than my computer lab/bedroom at home:
How many disk drives can you hook up to a IIgs, and where do they get
mapped to (slot/drive)?
*My IIgs shopping list DOES include a Bugg-Power supply and a fan, but
my bucks are all blown on internet, Platinum Paint :D , a high-speed
cable, and my over-priced comic book subscription. You know, the
necessities. ;D
