Welcome to the world of GS computing!

The easiest way is to use the Finder. Boot GS/OS (if you need the
6 disk set, try contacting Shareware Solutions II at their web site
http://www.crl.com/~joko/ and asking about System 6.0.1 for the GS)
and when you reach the Finder, put a blank disk in the 3.5" drive.
Format the disk when the "Eject or Format" dialog box comes up.
If you have two 3.5" drives, just stick your program disk in the
second drive, drag the program disk's icon on top of your blank
disk's, then the Finder will do the rest. If you have only a single
3.5" drive, you may have to swap disks. The hundreds of titles in
Shareware Solutions II's library are available for practically the
price of shipping and media, btw.

Backup is always easiest if you have a hard drive (see the Focus
line of hard drives from Alltech at http://www.allelec.com/ or
the SCSI card/Iomega Zip Drive combo from Sequential Systems at
http://www.sequential.com/). If you have a hard disk on the GS,
then just install the software (copy it into a folder on the hard
disk) and put your originals in a safe place. The originals
become the backups.

If you have any more questions, feel free to post them to the
friendly Apple IIGS newsgroup (comp.sys.apple2). Good luck with
these fine computers.
