Thanks to Nathan Mates and Marvin for responding to my post. I may have
been unclear about my reasons for asking those questions. The PC clone I'm
using doesn't belong to me and I thought that I might not have access to it
much longer. The GS is mine, and I wanted some feedback from
'knowledgeable' GS users on the usefulness of this machine.
Like most of you, I have a sentimental attachment to this little computer
(it's the first and only that I've bought); unlike some long-time users and
die-hard techies, I haven't done much more with it than write term papers
and doodle. I've just gotten Internet access and want to experience as
much of it as possible. I thought that if I could do it with the GS
(without spending a fortune) I would just not use the PC. Some things have
changes since my first post, so the 'best of both worlds' is the approach
I'll take for now.
(Regarding TCP, Nathan referred me to his FAQ (which I have read, some
parts more closely than others), which says that TCP is not yet available.
However, information on Derek Taubert's page contradicts the FAQ. I've
sent a message to Mr. Taubert, but so far haven't gotten a reply.)
Since I'll be playing around with the GS now, I'm sure I'll be posting more
questions, some of which may seem terribly inane. I'm not a techie, nor do
I have the time/resources to thoroughly investigate everything that comes
up or search for the necessary manual. I'll do my best to figure it out
myself, but I presume this newsgroup is for GS users who have questions,
regardless of their technical expertise, so please bear with me (and any
others like me).
Anyway, thanks again.
Tim
