Since Macs don't have a wavetable synthesis chip built-in, it has to
emulate the Ensoniq in software. This requires huge amounts of
processing power and explains why GS emulators came so late. Apple
seems to have given up on implementing sound at all in their GuS
emulator (which, of course, would make using it pointless as sound
is THE reason for having the GS during most of its existance).

I am curious: does Bernie emulate all GS video features and support
3200 color mode? That would indeed be quite an achievement.

The Apple IIGS is not the only difficult computer to emulate. You
should check out the Amiga emulators for your Mac. :)

All in all, I'd rather run GS software on a real GS and Amiga software
on a real Amiga, at least for the time being. An emulator has not
hit the goal of 15MHz emulation w/full sound support yet. Still,
emulators like Executor (Mac emulator for the PC) are interesting
technical achievements.
