Apple IIgs owners who have problems with their standard Apple RGB
analog color monitor are posting queries about how to fix their
Apple monitor, or how to adapt some other brand of RGB monitor to
the Apple IIgs.
I say you folks are missing a good bet if you don't check out a
Second Sight card and a cheap used VGA monitor. This combination
can make a GREAT improvement in the text screen and a minor
improvement in the graphic screen. I use Gno/ME, AppleWorks 5.1
and occasionally other text-based programs, and in my opinion the
improvement in text readability over the Apple RGB monitor is
nothing short of incredible. I find a net gain in readability of
the desktop screen as well; it does not work well for animated
graphics, but fortunately I don't need this capability.
If you want a Second Sight card and the best text screen you will
ever see on a IIgs, get one now while they are still available.
Used 14" VGS monitors are cheap these days when all the Windoze
folks are going to 19" and 21" monitors.
By all means, though, fix that Apple RGB monitor and keep it!
(No connection to Sequential Systems except as a happy customer.)
