It's time 2 play "ID This Card"!

I found this card in slot 4 of a Bell & Howell Apple //. It has 2
phono jacks on it, both pointed toward the keyboard, like on the
Phasor sound card. It has a big sliding rehostat-looking thing on the
end away from the keyboard. This adjustment thing I just mentioned
hangs out the cutout on the back of the computer.

The phono jacks are labeled. The upper one is labeled SPK OUT above
it and DAC OUT below it. The lower jack is labeled AUX OUT below it.
The upper jack had a phono cable connecting it with the computer's
sound input jack.

This card has 3 chips:
SP8344 (A big wavy = sign before the SP)
   LM3900N (14 pins)

   AD 558 JN (16 pins)
    8424 (A delta after the 4)

   M8415 (A wavy = sign before the M)
      LM (8 pins)
  386N-1

At the bottom left corner, it says:

 MMI DAC BOARD
     1982
Temporal Acuity
 Products, Inc.

On the back, written sideways (by hand?) near the rehostat(?) is:

#2278

My wild & crazy guess is that this is a DAC board ;) Buuuuut, what
does this card do?
