I have an HP Laserjet 5mp. I print a lot with my Photoshop too. Your
problem isn't necessarily the computer, it may be the printer.
Photoshop is very intensive when printing to any printer whether SGI
ripped or straight to a desktop. One answer is putting more RAM in your
printer. I believe all HP's can upgrade printer RAM, but I'm not sure,
I know it certainly helped me!
