Another solution: why not consider purchasing another Apple IIgs
system locally (one with a working AppleColor RGB) and salvage the
display that comes with it? That may sound silly just to acquire a
monitor, but then GS's are available these days at almost give-away
prices. I did this about two years ago and ended up with a free RGB
replacement, that is once I re-sold the extras (i.e. CPU, keyboard,
floppy drive) that I didn't need.
Even if the display is a bit off from age, you can easily fix
things like color, brightness and focus by adjusting internal pots
(that is if your careful). I fixed a couple of AppleColor RGB's and
even a 14" SVGA display this way. :)
