Computers are the driving force behind processor upgrades, not
embeded controller apps. Microwaves and pacemakers don't need
high speed processors. This is why Intel sells the '186 and
Motorolla sells the 68000 as microcontrollers still (to this day).
If it weren't for the Mac and PC, Intel and Motorolla would
still be at the '186 and 68000 stage.
Only computer sales to Apple and others would have created the
impetus for faster processors with more bits.
WDC had faster processors since '86, but Apple chose not to use
them.

Not true, faster '816 processors were available. The Transwarp GS
and Zip GS used them and were around in the late '80s.

The GS is an '86 design, not a 1970s design.
Is a GS not an Apple II because it is not 8-bits? Is a 68040 Mac
not a Mac because it does not have a 16/32 CPU (like the 68000 was)?

I hope IBM and Intel succeed. IBM and Intel do not the "evil"
Microsoft make.
PC does not equal Microsoft.
