Dear Nancy, I see it has been a week since you posted your S.O.S., so, I figure you have already found a solution for your nightmare. I own a Powerbook 190 as well. A similar situation happened to me a few months ago; luckily I did not smash it against the wall. The problem was solved by using Norton Utilities' emergency disk. It started up and solve the conflict problem quite nicely. If your wonderful 190 P refuses to recognize this startup disk, you may need to reinstall the system program. That will do.
