For CPU acceleration, you only need the CPU and oscillator. You
need to cut the trace only if you want to add more cache RAM. The
two upgrades are independent.
The older engineering grade 65C816 chips required a ROM upgrade
that provided special delays for some 16-bit instructions. The
newer 65C816-14MHz from WDC or Alltech, however, does not need the
ROM or GAL upgrades at all.
