As others have answered, Apple designed an Ethernet crad for the Apple II,
but before killing off the project, they did ship an unknown number of them
out to an unknown number of developers. So, there are some out there. How
many is anyone's guess.

The Cortland was the code name for the IIGS. There are several different
Cortland models, including one with a blue motherboard.

The Apple IIx was the project that brought Woz back to Apple in the mid
1980s.

In a sense, I guess you could say that Shareware Solutions II opened the
Apple II prototype floodgates a while back...after acquiring two Mark Twain
IIGS prototypes...and wrote about them in an article entitled "The Computer
That Could have Changed The World."

If you are curious about Apple II prototypes, you can actually get a 96

So, although nothing is definite, I'd say there's a strong possibility that
an upcoming issue of Shareware Solutions II will have an article on other
Apple II prototypes that have never been released. But...in an attempt to
assure accuracy...SSII will only write about prototypes that the publisher
has either in his possession, or prototypes that the publisher has actually
seen with his own eyes and used.

After all, I've heard rumors that there may be upwards of 25 different Apple
II models that were designed and built and never released.
