Zip GS questions

I have recently posted about my problems running Applesoft Basic using a
Ramfast rev C and Zip GS 9mhz 32K card and appreciate all the responses I got.
This is what I have learned through a lot of experimentation and suggestions
from others:

I can get everything to work normally if I set the system speed to normal in
the GS control panel. However, it seems as though the Zip GS does not
accelerate at all with this setting no matter what Zip speed settings I use
with either the Zip CDA, Zip CDEV (patched), ZipGS16 utility or Zip init file.
Is this because the GS system speed must be set to 'fast' to invoke the ZipGS?

Next problem: the minute I change the GS speed to 'fast' and reboot, the
system hangs before the GS/OS thermometer appears. I don't even get a chance
to hold down the '0' key, shift key or anything. The only thing I can do is
reset and then get into the control panel and change the GS system speed back
to normal. Then I can reboot and everything is okay. If I then go into the
ZipGS16 utility and turn off the ZipGS, go back into the GS control panel and
set system speed to 'fast' and reboot everything is fine except that I am only
running at 2.8 mhz.

It seems that there is a conflict between the GS and the ZipGS and not the
Ramfast card at all. Is it possible that the SRAM chips on the Zip card are
the culprits? I have even tried setting my cache size from 32K to 16K,
selecting a different slot than #3, moving my Ramfast card from slot #2 to #7,
reseating both cards, checking all cable connections, using a shorter cable,
turning various slot speeds from fast to slow and back again.

I know all my Zip switch settings are correct because so many people responded
previously explaining each setting in the same way.

I think my next experiment will be to remove the Ramfast card, boot from a
system floppy with a Zip init file on it, and try to experiment with different
Zip speed settings this way. If I can't get any response, there must be
something wrong with the Zip card. In fact now that I think about it, I'm not
sure if my Zip card has ever worked at anything faster than 2.8 mhz.

Any thoughts here would be much appreciated.
