CGA video for Apple III or IIc

Subject: CGA cable for III

I'm still looking for information needed to make a IIc w/Video 7 connect
properly to a CGA monitor.  It looks as if the Video 7 output is
compatible with the Apple III video connector, so that would be fine
too.

The Video 7 manual is absolutely useless.

All I have been able to get is 6 or 8 colors on a GS monitor.  Working
from the pinout for the III video port in the FAQ and the CGA pinout in
the comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.video FAQ, I fashioned a cable.  But I'm
still getting incorrect colors (but great text/mono DHR). 

Is the III video port really the same pinout as the GS video port?  CGA
wants an intensity signal and seperate H and V sync, which doesn't exist
on the GS video port.
