This is a surprise?  SYS files are often BINs; BAS is tokenized TXT.

Convert things to what they are supposed to be.  I download a few texts
which wind up on disk as BIN's and that's easy to fix.  The swaps you
speak of can't work (compile the BAS file before converting to SYS!).
