That was worded very badly and arose because of some opinion that turned
out not to be accurate. Genie is in some trouble, but it is not known IF
or WHEN it will be closing down. There has been some erosion of A2
membership because of this rumor (people are scared to death that they
might get rooked out of a week or two of membership if they don't jump
ship), but things are cooking along there the same as always. Anyone who
tells you they know that Genie is going off-line would have to know more
than the top echelons of the Genie A2 staff does. Truthfully, no one has a
clue. Genie has already lasted a good bit longer than the doomsayers
predicted.
If you want to be technical, it would also be accurate to say that AOL will
be going off-line, too. Or CompuServe. The real question is what the
timeline is. Me, I'm staying on Genie until they turn off the lights.
There is no comparable resource for Apple II users.
Having said that, Delphi is going to be our home if and when Genie folds.
