No, Bill, .gz is a binary (Unix zipped) and has to downloaded as
such. Ask your System Administrator to add .gz to the .mime-types file
as a binary, if it isn't already (which would surprise me as .gz is a
common Unix utility). Check to see if your Internet system has a
provision for unzipping the file online and then download it directly as
a binary unzipped.
