Hello-
Sorry to start another thread for this, but the old one is quite long and
a pain to view for most text-based users...
As I understand it currently, Dr. Tom would like us to believe that a)
someone
broke into his home while he was away and in that time, he/she b) managed
to
hack into his internet account, and upload software that to an ftp site;
this is, mind you, when he openly admits his "Free - free for everyone"
statement.
Sorry to disturb any dillusions you may have here, Dr. Tom, but you are
not
a CIA agent ; it is most unlikely that someone would go to all
that trouble over a small Apple IIgs release. Furthermore, if your
internet
provider knows that it is not you who posted the software, why has your
account
not been re-activated? Why must you find another isp?
I suppose it's early to draw conclusions here. But it would be helpful if
Joe would check the ip address against Turley's isp (wco.com I think)
and perhaps obtain logs from his isp (if possible) showing when and from
where
he was logged on on the date in question...
Andy
Well, Andy allow me to address your above comments and questions with as
clear of an answer as I know how, to help you understand it all a bit more
clearly!
First, my home was not locked. Thus anybody that wanted could get in.
Breaking in was not an option. I was gone for two days Feb. 1 - 8:30AM
thru Feb. 2, 1997. I returned home around 10:30PM (PST) on Sunday -
2/2/97.
My home is a cottage, in a very remote and isolated area of a very small
city. It's obscure on the end of the street on a hill, surrounded by
large trees.
With no visitors or other visible interuptions, anybody that entered my
home could have had free use of my computer and my acct. for both days and
nights, certainly without any interference of problems of detection. Or,
the person could have simply obtained my logon name and password and then
written it down, left my home, returned to their own place and taken
things from their, via their own computer and programs.
When I returned on 2/2/97 - Sunday night at about 10:30PM (PST) - I found
nothing disturbed and promptly went to bed.
Second, my computer was set up with auto logon and password active. So,
anybody could have simply walked into my home, turned on the computer,
inserted a disk with the archives and uploaded them from my home, as if
they were me, from my acct with wco.com - to any ftp site they wished.
I've also checked the posts for both days and saw none from my acct. and
email address to any news groups. But, then I guess that's not a relevant
matter, as I've already seen a forged post using my (EXPIRED) old wco.com
email header 'cturley@wco.com' - which wasn't even valid or active any
longer, when that post was made.
With respect to Joe, his logs and evidence, etc. - he certainly should
make this evidence and these logs, download list of names, etc. available
in any manner to anybody that ask to see them and review their findings;
email copy, hard copy, snail mail or in person, presented as evidence in a
court of law, for the public records.
I'd love to see them myself and hopfully can review them some time soon in
court.
As for your believing the matters or not, what you elect to believe is
entirely up to you. It's a free country we live in. So, believe what you
want to believe. IMHO - your notions appear to already be preconceived.
Cheers,
Tom
