All of the files were produced on the IIgs. The unpacked screen files
(type BIN or $C1) which PW Gold, running under System 6, does not
recognize on HFS disks are perfectly good, correctly typed files. Platinum
Paint has no difficulty recognizing the files on an HFS disk and loading
them.
Of course, if PWG is being launched by booting the original ProDOS 16
diskette, the program's quirks vis-a-vis HFS format don't much matter.
Nothing on an HFS disk will be recognized. The Mac user should be saving
the pics to an 800k ProDOS diskette.
If the Mac utility is saving the files as type $00, then, for sure,
they will not be recognized by PWG (or Platinum Paint). A fairly simple
fix is to use ProSel or some other utility to change the file type on the
GS. For example, unpacked screen picks could be set to type $06 (binary).
