Cool slot feature on ROM01!

This is probably old news, in fact, I am sure it is. In fact, I even
mentioned it once, but now I know for sure it works.

I have a ROM 01 IIgs, normally configured as follows:

Slot 1: Printer Port
Slot 2: Modem Port
Slot 3: Video Overlay Card
Slot 4: Mouse Port
Slot 5: 3.5" disk drive
Slot 6: 5.25" drive
Slot 7: HS-SCSI

I just acquired a Focus-20 hard drive, which I will shortly install on my
machine at work. For the moment, I wanted to install the Focus in my main
GS at home so that I can put some critical software onto it the easy way.
But as you can see, I am apparently out of slots. So here's what I did--

Set Slot #2 to "Your Card" and install the Focus in Slot #2.

No big deal, right? Except that right now, with the Focus installed in
Slot #2, I am using the modem connected to the modem port, and am logged
in using ANSITerm. And I can still access the Focus.

Obviously, I have an ANSITerm driver installed that talks to the port
directly instead of through firmware. And it has just made the machine
that much more flexible. So far, it seems to work just fine. And as I
set the machine up at work, it looks like this will be the way to get
around the problems of using AppleTalk on a ROM-01 machine with a hard
drive 8-)

Just thought I'd pass that tip along, even if you GS gurus knew about it
already.
