AppleWorks and most other 8-bit programs support a "Print to Disk"
function that is also known as "save as a plain text file." Said file can
be loaded into just about any known computer, as long as you can
physically read the disk it's on.

GS Users have an interesting alternative option - choose the LaserWriter
as your printer driver, select "Print" from the File menu, then as you
click "OK" to print, press and hold the Command and f keys down. Instead
of printing, a PostScript file will be written to disk in the
*:System:Drivers file. The PostScript should be downloadable to any
PostScript printer.
