One TV I was using seemed to have the same problem-- after plugging
in a set of headphones and removing them, the TV's speakers seem to
have cut out permanently. This was because the headphone jack has a
small physical cutoff switch that got stuck in the 'kill internal
speaker' setting. A little poking around with a paperclip fixed that.
Alternatively, inserting and removing a headphones jack a few times
may loosen the switch to the point where it works again.
You may want to try an little experimentation with that jack
before hitting the motherboard a few times.
