I have pondered this problem for a long time. I think that it would make
the Apple II more attractive if the users can have access to old (!)
programs which are not longer sold by their original producers. I think
who wants an original buys an original. Just remember the motivation
of the collector types who scan the market for old Ultima games for
example. Originals are something special.

The problem is that there is a small small fraction of mindlessly
determined Vogon types who try to drill the ABSOLUTE LETTER OF THE LAW
into our heads. Personally, I think laws can be bent if (and only if!)
nobody can be hurt, it's like driving too fast on a straight street
with a clear view. But it's impossible to appeal to the reason of
a bureaucrat, simply because he doesn't have any!

Unless the Apple II community has found a way to deal with these guys,
I won't accept the risk to offer anything controversial on my college
server. I think something should happen first, a sign that the
majority of the A2 community would want and support an archive of
ancient IIgs software...

By no means should new programs which are still being sold by the publishers,
be found in the Internet. These good people who are still producing and
selling software for the Apple II deserve all the help which we can give!
