: Perhaps these companies hat to find another field _to survive_ in the
: market. It should be clear to everyone that a company _has_ to be
: profitable.
Of course, a company has to be profitable! But it is another question
how you define profitable. For a single person, a few dozens of sold
copies may be profitable. For a small company, a few hundreds of sold
copies may be profitable. But when the small company has finally
succeeded in using the small and medium markets as stepladders on the
way to the TOP, they may find only a few thousands of sold copies
acceptable. Everything below is considered 'peanuts' in the unique
greedy and arrogant attitude of the LARGE companies.
Consider them all: IBM,Micro$oft,AOL,Sierra,Origin,Electronic Arts and last
but not least Apple! All have they made the same mistake: They have
scared the small and medium customers. They won't feel these losses
until they sum up and when the market shakes, they will vanish
without a trace. (Hmm.. IBM may be an exception. These guys have
perfected the art of applied parasitism. When the market trembles, they
simply buy some other few small but promising companies...)
My opinion is that a company should NEVER scare their original customers
or they risk that there will be a time in the future when they will
have to rely on them again and then they will pay heavily. If they
don't want to invest in research & development for the small and
medium markets personally, grant licences to small companies.
