What do you mean that you managed to get some prints? Have you
managed to get data to the printer using a ProDOS 8 program or from
BASIC?
Anyways, to ensure that it is Express that is causing problems, you
can turn it off and see if your GS/OS programs print properly without
it. Open the Control Panel NDA and open the Express CDEV. Click on
the Options button and make sure there is an X in the Express inactive
checkbox and click OK. The bottom line in the Express window should
have changed from "printer is idle" to "Express is turned OFF". You
can then close the Express CDEV and Control Panel NDA.
Start a GS/OS program that has printing capability such as Teach and
select Page Setup from the File menu. You should get a dialog box
with the top line saying "ImageWriter / Printer v4.2" or
something similar.
If not your problem is that you do not have the correct printer driver
selected in the DC Printer CDEV. Open the Control Panel NDA and DC
Printer CDEV and select the port your printer is connected to and the
ImageWriter printer type. If ImageWriter isn't listed under the
Printer Type then it must be installed (or simply copied) from the
GS/OS install disks to the */SYSTEM/DRIVERS folder of your boot drive
before you try to set the DC Printer options.
If your DC Printer is selected properly and your Page Setup says it is
the ImageWriter / Printer then type a few lines or into the untitled
Teach document and then select Print from the File menu.
It should also come up with a dialog box titled ImageWriter / Printer.
Select okay and see if anything prints. If yes, then everything
should be fine. If no, then your problem may be that you have the
printer plugged into the opposite port on the back of your IIgs or
that the printer cable is bad.
If you changed something above to get the printer to work, then
Express probably isn't the problem and you should be able to uncheck
the inactive box again to turn Express back on.
Let me know how it goes.
