Probably a weak power supply - my original p/s did this towards the end
of it's lifespan as well.  The 3.5" drive draws a LOT of current.  I suggest
you get one of the Buggie power supplies that Nathan seems to recommend; 
being PC p/s's, they have current to spare and then some.
