That's odd. Do you see the word "Normal" appear when you press the
keys Apple-Control-Esc-Reset, or hold down 'Esc' when you first power
up the machine? Perhaps your Escape key is dead; press Control-Reset
at start up so you get the blinking checkerboard cursor, and now press
the 'Esc' key. Does the cursor change to a static inversed plus "+"?
(a sign that the key is still functioning).
I've tested my Apple IIc Plus with a DuoDisk 5.25 drive connected
to the disk port. It's able to operate with it at 1 MHz, if I tell the
machine to slow-down. I haven't tried my Disk //c external or Apple 5.25,
but they should be no different.
