As far as I can remember, 80/40 buttons let you choose from 40 columns
(default) or 80 columns. I think you just have to press that key and
wait halt a second.
On my //e, I used to type:
] PR#3
when I wanted to activate 80 columns card but I thing you know that !
About screens, I can tell you anything more: I've never plugged anything
else than Apple Monitors.
