yeah...i'd heard about this but..never found anyone that actually
managed it..a guy pechank(sp?) ran a 2 line bbs in 83 called
Safehouse..in the twin cities in Minnesota. He had one //e as a server
and 2 //e's (one on each phone line) to run the software the whole thing
ran on a Corvus system...corvus hd's allowed you to network apple //
s using just a pair of twisted pair wires (all the apple labs that were
networked in the 70's and 80's i know about used corvus drives...)
anyway you would get on this system and you could see who was on the
other line..shout command to get their attention and chat...he also had
time and temp module that told that as you logged on...and he would
automaticly pull compuserve news and weather off and have it in an area
called tidbits or something....was guite the bbs ...he was way ahead of
his time.....
it took me till 91 to get a dual line bbs up with apples and the only
way i managed that was to get major bbs/wg on a ms dos bbs system and
add them as doors...(which will stay that way even when i get the web
site up...got preserve this stuff ..historical computing and all)
anyone else know what happened to this guy and or his software....sorta
a shame corvus went under ...if they'd had ...and like most mnfg of hd's
they'd gotten cheaper could have had multiline apple bbs's common in the
early 80's.
oh well...but that is the system that got me hooked....big time.
