This is the newsgroup version of the Apple II listserv on Bitnet. Listserv
started out as kind of the usenet equivalent on Bitnet, a nationwide
network of IBM mainframes. At some time in the past, I believe in the
late 80's, Bitnet was joined with the Internet and many, but not all,
topical listserv's were joined with their corresponding usenet groups
by the method of cross-posting everything on one to the other. Also these
listservs often became available in usenet as newgroups as bit.* like
the one above. Basically it's a historical artifact.

This appears to be an Apple II newsgroup local to UIUC, The University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
