HyperText Markup Language (HTML) uses only ASCII.  There is no
such thing as an "html.character".  If you are getting "junk", you probably
have a protocol incompatibility.  For most of the stuff on the WorldWide
Web,
you need a program that supports HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
