Not true. You need a MIDI interface on both sides. On the GS, that
means a small external box (basically just an opto and same supportic
circuitry). The box can be had from Apple (same as on the old Macs,
expensive), or there are numerous DIY kits for it (search old computer
magazines ... I only read German ones, so that won't help you :).

Interesting, didn't know that was possible. I am used to doing MIDI
through the sound card (out the "game port", which doubles as a MIDI
interface on a sound card).

Regarding baud rate: That's fixed with MIDI, but the drivers should
take care of that, you don't need to worry about it.
