The Aptiva is using the X.10 protocol.  It can do a bit more than the normal 
software because the computer allows for more complicated macros and can react 
to X.10 signals across the AC lines.  Reactions include turning on the 
computer, and thus controlling other devices.  For example, turning on a light, 
the Aptiva would sense it and then turn on the stereo.  A CP290 is therefore 
not needed.
