Wow what lively discussion!
I have borrowed a BF 430 serial server box from a friend at work to
join to my LAN, and hope to use modem MGR or whatever is the best
choice from Asimov on the //c.
Will buy a les2700a serial server from ebay as suggested, this really
looks like the best option: tried Cygwin and it doesn't recognise
"getty" being typed into the cli. I'm not very good with unix.
I gather I must make up a serial lead just like at
http://adtpro.sourceforge.net/connectionsserial.html but with TxD and
RxD swapped on one end to not have a null cable.
Any suggestions are appreciated. I'll let you know my progress. Thanks
again.
For a standard 2c all you need is
TxD <-> RxD
Rxd <-> TxD
Gnd <-> Gnd
However, I'm not sure where to get the 5 pin DIN connector. Roughly a
decade ago when I made mine I used the cable from an PC/AT style
keyboard. A hacked LED/Battery setup to locate the proper pin to wire
and a Radio Shack 9 pin serial connector. This worked well when I used ADT.
I've heard (but cannot verify) that a 2c Image Writer cable might work.
You may also want to check into ProTerm 3 which was recently
reclassified for free use. Great docs available too.
