Re: How limited was the Woz edition?

Other than the hand-written (duplicated copy) of Steve Wozinak's
nickname signature above the dotted "Limited Edition", almost none.
It is merely a cosmetic difference printed on the cover lid, the rest
of the case and motherboard are identical to later non-"Woz" covers.
One thing to point out, all "Woz" cover GS's came shipped with the
original firmware (ROM 00) and are more likely to have the faulty VGC
chip. Oh, and Apparently these GS's also came with a form you could
mail away to receieve a special certificate. I've never seen one myself.

Well here in western Quebec, the Apple IIgs was available from
authorized dealers for several years. Still, I had to wait a couple
of months as they were on back order. When it arrived in late January
of 1988, it was the plain-cover Apple IIgs, though I have seen many
Woz-cover GS's in my area over the years.
I've not heard the exact number of Woz-cover GS's sold, though a
rough guess would be anywhere from 10,000 to 50,000. At present, these
hold no montary value, nor are they particularly rare by any means.
They do hold certain nostalgic value to die-hard Apple II fans though;
as one myself, I regret not having a GS "Woz" cover in my collection. :)
(I would have swapped covers with the GS at my old high school, had it
not been covered with stickers, scratches and pen scribblings ;-)
