Epson LX-800 on a GS?

Hi Everyone,

Now that I've finally got the 4Mb extra memory and a ramfast scsi card into the
2GS, I'm using System 6.0.1 in it's entirety. I have an Epson LX-800 printer
(an improved version of the LX/FX-80, I think), and I installed the Epson
driver on the hard drive boot disk. The parallel card is an "Epson APL" card.
Pretty old, but the printer & card definitely work OK from Apple Pascal and
Printshop (the original one, not PrinshopGS). Using the data dump mode of the
printer (to see what the printer is actually receiving), printing the text
"this is a test" from within Teach in draft yields:

0000 80 9B C0 9B CD 9B B3 98 8D 8A 8D 8A 9B CA 80 8D ..@.M.3......J..
0001 9B CA 81 8D A0 A0 F4 E8 E9 F3 A0 E9 F3 A0 E1 A0 .J.. this is a
0002 F4 E5 F3 F4 8C 9B CA 80 8D 9B CA 81 8D test..J...J..

which would be perfect, save that all the characters have their top (parity)
bit turned on and thus become graphic garbage on the actual printout. Where do
you think I should start looking?
