Are you using a NULL modem cable?  Being able to transfer files between
systems is not a matter of drivers, but of cables.  Tell us what you
got.

You need to have a cable which connects the transmit on one computer to
the receive of the other, and vice-versa.  Also, the DTR/DSR signals should
inter-connect.
