The "Unable to boot ProDOS" error message does not, exactly, pinpoint
the problem. (All sorts of things can lead to the message.) It may be
that one or both diskettes are not intended for booting. It may be that
one or both diskettes are messed up in some way. For example, if a copy
were produced on a GS drive with misaligned heads, it may not work on your
GS.
You can use Copy II+ to see what is on each of the diskettes. So long
as a diskette is not protected, you should be able to get a Catalog. You
should be able Verify most files, too.
Another option is to boot a plain ProDOS diskette, go to the BASIC
prompt, and do CAT or CATALOG for each troblesome diskette. (You would
stick the diskette into your 3.5" Drive #1 and do CAT,S5 to get a CAT
listing of files.)
If you cannot get a CAT of a non-copy-protected diskette, that is a
pretty good indication that something is wrong. (There are a few
exceptions to this. For example, some special disk archive formats will
not Catalog.)
