    Keep in mind there is one major limitation to that. Unless this host 
offers local dial-up lines in your area, the only way to access such a
shell a account is through telnet. If your local ISP only offers SLIP/PPP 
connections, this won't do you much good. 

    If your city has a Freenet site (most do), then you should have the
ability to telnet for free. Here in Montreal, that option was available
for a short while, but they just announced the Montreal-Freenet will be
closing at the end of this month (just _four_ months after opening!).
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised really, this being the poorest city 
in all of Canada, and probably most of North America. 

    With free public Internet access no longer an option, and few, if
any, local ISP's offering shell access, my future access is on very 
shaky grounds. I'm basically counting the days until GS/TCP is released,
since this may soon be my only way to access the Internet using my IIgs.
(At least from my area, I'm sure most other cities have Freenet and/or
at least a few scattered shell providers).
