   ProDOS 8 is a general name for the 8-bit versions of ProDOS. ProDOS
from 1984 is ProDOS 8, probably version 1.0.x or 1.1.x. ProDOS 8 v1.9
is the last version that'll run on an unenhanced 64K machine (//e, ][+
with 64K); the 2.x versions require an enhanced Apple II (enhanced
//e, //c, IIGS).

   You can either contact your local Apple User Group (call
1-800-SOS-APPL), or get it from an authorized distributor. Steve
Cavanaugh is one such person; he also distributes a 'modem disk' full
of comm programs, unpackers, and the like to help bootstrap you
into downloading. From the comp.sys.apple2 Frequently Asked Questions
at http://www.visi.com/~nathan/a2/faq/csa2.html,

Chuck Orem used to distribute a 5.25" disk with modem utilities, a
terminal program (Comm.System 2.5), Shrinkit 3.4, BinSCII 1.0.3, UU
1.1, Sneeze 2.2 and UnShrink 2.1 in ready to run format. Also included
are all the docs for the above programs, plus Zlink (in archived
format). Steve Cavanaugh (stevec1021@aol.com) has now taken over this
service. Send $3 to cover postage and materials to Steve Cavanaugh, 8
Ardsley Street, Brockton, MA 02402.
