I should have pointed out I was using the latest Windows client (yeah... I
know. What's a staunch PC hater like me doing using one. ;D), and I hadn't
tried it with my PowerBook (which still uses MacAOL 2.5.1).  

Keyword APPLE at one time with WAOL 3.0 did give you a way in.  Then all
the Mac forum forms changed and the links to the area disappeared.  I took
just about every *public* path I could think of (including the one
suggested above) and had no luck.

I have a private access to nearly all of the libraries because of my
remote staff status (don't bother asking how because I won't tell anyone),
but I was looking at it from the public sense.
