Greetings:
As mentioned in a separate post, I'm suddenly finding
myself with a bit more free time. (Hope it lasts...)
Anyway, I'm hoping to do a bit of coding on my IIgs.
It's pretty well stock: 4.25 Mb and about 100 Mb of
harddrives, but no accelerators, SecondSight, etc.
I'd like to do some basic C coding. Some would just
be text stuff, but I'd like to try some GUI too.
What software should I buy? I expect I should get
GNO, but what about a compiler?
Just so you understand where I'm coming from, I had
TML Pascal (plus later upgrades) but was constantly
running into bizaree crashes. I eventually got
fed up with fighting the development environment
instead of the actual programming challange, and
quit.
At work, I have a powerful, though somewhat dated,
proprietary code library system. I write in a
proprietary language, too, but the compiler is
100% solid. There is a staff of a about a hundred
people who worry about keeping the development
environment working (library problems, backing up
harddrives, etc.)
I'm spoiled.
I don't want to spend money on a C package for my GS
just to run into annoying compiler bugs and
inexplicable crashes. At home, I'll be coding for
fun, not profit, and that kind of stuff drains all
the fun from it. I'd rather just play Wolf3D. :-)
So, what can the experts here recommend?
(I'm living in fear that the answer is: "Assembly!",
since I don't want to hear that!) I got a good
response for my telecom question (got ProTerm 3.1),
so I'm hopeful of similar quality suggestions.
PS. Do Sheppy or BurgerBill read csa2? I'd value their
opinions, but I suspect they don't visit...
Cheers, and thanks.
