I think I'm running into a programmer/user slang difference here.
To a programmer, "When it's done" is the correct answer. The software
package is being worked on, but because the programmer(s) want to
release a *good* package rather than a *timely* one, no promises will
be made on the ship date. Lots of other companies (Apogee's web site
has had "when it's done" on several packages, but they're out now) use
the phrase lots of times.
"I don't know" implies that the person saying it has no involvement
or knowledge of progress on the project. However, since I talk to
Derek (the author) on a regular basis, and bughunt stuff as well,
that's not correct.
